The benefits of reading are widely known. Who reads acquires culture, begins to write better, has more critical sense, expands vocabulary and have better school performance, among many other advantages. So it is important to read and have contact with literary works from the first months of life. But how to make children in literacy phase are interested in books? It is true that, amid increasingly playful and full of technological resources toys, this is not an easy task. But small actions can make a difference.
"The family's behavior directly influences the child's habits. If parents read a lot, the natural tendency is that the child also acquires a taste for books," says Rosane Lunardelli, PhD in Language Studies and professor State University of Londrina (UEL ). The family has the role, so to show the child that reading is an enjoyable activity, not just an obligation, something that should be done because it was asked at school, for example. "Children need to be enchanted by reading," says Lucinea Rao, PhD in Education and also a teacher at UEL.
To entice the reading, there are several activities that parents and other family members can put into practice with the child and thus make the act of reading a fun time. In literacy period - before her and a little later too - experts suggest that blends reading with fun, doing, for example, representations of read history, encouraging the child to create their own books and asking the illustrious child a story . "To enchant young children, it is essential to play with the book," advises Mary Alphonsine Matos, coordinator of the Center of Studies of Reading, State University of Southwest Bahia (Uesb). Mary Alphonsine also gives a hint: never complain book prices before his son. "The book needs to be valued," she says.
