Platonic love is any kind of affectionate or idealized situation in which abstracts the sexual element, for several different genres, as in a case of pure friendship between two people.

Platonic love can also be an impossible love, which is difficult or unrequited. Often a person has a platonic love and never tries to get out of this stage because you're afraid of getting hurt or afraid to check that your fantasies and expectations do not match reality.

The term love "Platonicus" was first used by the Florentine Neoplatonic philosopher Marsilio Ficino in the fifteenth century as a synonym of Socratic love. Both expressions refer to a love focused on the beauty of the character and intelligence of a person, and not in your physical appearance. The term saw his concept change thanks to the work of Mr. William Davenant, "Platonic Lovers" (Platonic Lovers - 1636), where the English poet refers to love as portrayed in Plato's Symposium, which states that love is the root of all virtue and truth.

For the Greek philosopher Plato, love was something essentially pure and devoid of passions, while where they are essentially blind, materials, ephemeral and false. The platonic love is not based in interest, but in virtue. Plato also created the theory of the world of ideas, where everything was perfect and that in the real world everything was an imperfect copy of the world of ideas. So platonic love, or anything platonic, refers to something that is perfect, but that does not exist in the real world, only in the world of ideas.

The platonic love is understood as a love at a distance, that does not approach, does not ring, does not, is made of fantasy and idealization, where the object of love is perfect, holder of all the good qualities and without defects.
